McLEAN WOMAN, 86, KILLED IN PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT IN McLEAN: A pedestrian-related crash on Aug. 11 in the 1700 block of Kirby Road in McLean killed an 86-year-old woman, Fairfax County police said.

According to detectives with the police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit, the victim, identified as Brigitte Forster of McLean, was within the crosswalk and attempting to cross Kirby Road around 6 a.m. when she was struck by a 2009 Toyota Sienna that was turning left onto northbound Kirby Road from the parking lot of 1728 Kirby Road.

The driver cut the turn short and entered the southbound lanes, striking Forster in the crosswalk, police said. Rescue personnel took Forster to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver remained at the scene of the crash, police said.

Preliminarily, detectives do not believe speed or alcohol are factors in the crash. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, police said.

This is the seventh pedestrian-related fatal crash in Fairfax County to date in 2023. Year-to-date, in 2022, there were 12 pedestrian-related fatal crashes, police said.

MAN, 85, KILLED IN THREE-CAR CRASH IN MERRIFIELD: Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal three-car crash that occurred Aug. 11 at 11:44 a.m. on Arlington Boulevard at Stonehurst Drive in Merrifield.

Preliminary, detectives think the driver of a 2015 Toyota Camry attempted to turn left with a flashing yellow arrow from westbound Arlington Boulevard to Stonehurst Drive. A 2010 Toyota Prius being driven eastbound on Arlington Boulevard struck the Camry in the intersection.

After the initial collision, the Camry struck a third car, a 2023 Mercedes-Benz Eqs300, that was stopped at the intersection, police said. A passenger in the Camry, Paul Hession, 85, of the Churchill neighborhood near Falls Church, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Rescue personnel transported the drivers of the three vehicles to a hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening. Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

This is the ninth non-pedestrian-related fatal crash in Fairfax County to date in 2023. Year to date, in 2022 there also were nine non-pedestrian-related fatal crashes.

2 DRIVERS HOSPITALIZED FOLLOWING 4-VEHICLE CRASH IN FAIR OAKS: A four-vehicle crash in Fair Oaks on Aug. 11 injured three drivers, Fairfax County police said.

According to detectives with the police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit, a motorist in a 2007 Jeep Laredo was traveling eastbound on Route 50 toward Fair Oaks Mall when the vehicle rear-ended a 2023 Lexus, then continued eastbound and struck a Land Rover.

The Jeep then struck the guardrail on the shoulder of the roadway and crossed all lanes of travel toward the median. The Jeep crossed the grass median, went airborne and struck a 2009 Ford U-Haul Truck that was traveling westbound Route 50, police said.

Rescue personnel transported the drivers of the Jeep and U-Haul to a hospital for treatment of injuries originally believed to be life-threatening, but later determined to be non-life-threatening.

GUN INADVERTENTLY LEFT AT BUSINESS: On Aug. 9 at 8:53 a.m., an employee of a business in the 600 block of Mill Street, S.E., reported finding a gun, Vienna police said.

The gun owner was identified and determined to own the weapon legally, police said.

The gun was turned over to the property officer to be released to the owner.

CONVENIENCE STORE REPORTS SUSPECTED DRUG-DEALING DUO: An employee of a convenience store in the 500 block of Maple Ave., W., reported to police on Aug. 10 at 5:47 p.m. that a man and woman were outside the store and may have been trying to sell narcotics, Vienna police said.

The man left the area before the arrival of officers. At the request of the employee, the woman was trespassed from the property and advised that she would be charged if she returned.

AFTER REFUSING TO LEAVE, MAN IS TRESPASSED FROM BUSINESS: Vienna police responded to the 200 block of Maple Ave., W., on Aug. 7 at 10:15 a.m. for a report of a man trying to enter doors on the third and fourth floors of the building.

The man entered the Apex Hand Therapy office in the building without an appointment and was refusing to leave, police said.

The man was trespassed from the office by an employee; an officer advised him he would be charged with trespassing if he returned.

THIEF DEPARTS WITH BOTTLE OF BOOZE AT LIQUOR STORE: Staff at the Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) store at 419 Maple Ave., E., in Vienna reported that, on Aug. 3 at 8:42 p.m., a man entered the store, concealed a bottle of alcohol and left without paying, Vienna police said.

MAN CHARGED WITH DRUNKENNESS AFTER STUMBLING THROUGH PARKING LOT: On Aug. 4 around 11:35 p.m., officers observed a man stumbling through a parking lot at Maple Avenue and Beulah Road, N.E., Vienna police said.

Upon interaction with the man, officers detected signs of impairment, police said.

The suspect – a 54-year-old man of no fixed address – was arrested, charged with drunk in public and was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

PASSED-OUT MAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION: On Aug. 5 at 9:28 p.m., an officer observed a man passed out on a sidewalk in the 200 block of Cedar Lane, S.E., Vienna police said.

Upon the officer’s interaction with the man, he declined to be treated by rescue personnel, and the officer detected signs of intoxication, police said.

The 46-year-old man of no fixed address was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was charged with drunk in public.

DRIVER LEAVES SCOOTER BEHIND AFTER RAMMING OTHER VEHICLE: On July 29 at 6:55 p.m., a vehicle legally parked in the 100 block of Church St., N.W., was damaged when someone driving a Bird scooter struck its rear.

The driver of the scooter fled the area, leaving it on the scene.

The vehicle received minor damage, police said.

RESIDENTS FILE LATE REPORT OF STOLEN BICYCLE: On Aug. 5, a resident of the 300 block of Blair Court, N.W., reported to police that, on June 16 or 17, a youth bicycle was stolen from their front yard.

WOMAN WANTS SON OUT, BUT HAS EXPIRED PROTECTIVE ORDER: On Aug. 6 at midnight, a resident of the 200 block of Locust St., S.E., called police to report that her son was acting up and she wanted him to leave, Vienna police said.

The mother told officers that her son was in the home in violation of a protective order, but she had allowed her son to move back in.

According to police, the protective order had expired. Officers advised the resident of the eviction process to have the son removed.

‘ROAD SHARK’ CAMPAIGN DEEMED A SUCCESS BY POLICE DEPARTMENT: The Fairfax County Police Department has wrapped up its 2023 “Road Shark” campaign, issuing close to 25,000 citations and warnings to dangerous drivers on county roadways.

For the last few months, officers and Virginia State Police troopers around the county have been working to educate and ticket drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors.

During the fourth and final wave of enforcement, officers issued more than 9,850 citations and warnings. The overall campaign has resulted in nearly 25,000 citations and warnings being issued.

“Road Shark may be over, but our officers will continue to be out in full force, enforcing traffic laws, educating our community, and ensuring the safety of our roadways as part of their commitment to the residents of Fairfax County,” county police said in a statement.
