MOTORIST CITED AFTER APRIL ACCIDENT IN VIENNA THAT BADLY HURT PEDESTRIAN: Vienna police have cited a driver who allegedly struck and badly injured a pedestrian at Church and East streets, N.E., on April 24.

The pedestrian was walking southbound in the crosswalk on Church Street at 6:40 p.m. that day when the motorist, who was driving northbound on East Street, N.E., turned left onto Church Street and the vehicle struck the pedestrian, police said.

Rescue personnel transported the pedestrian to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Vienna issued the driver, who was not identified in the police report, a summons June 13 charging failure to yield to a pedestrian.

FEMALE JOGGER ELUDES MAN WHO FOLLOWED HER AT VIENNA-AREA PARK: A woman was running in Nottoway Park, 9537 Courthouse Road in the Vienna area, on July 14 at 7:10 p.m when an unknown man in a vehicle began following her, Vienna police said.

The man reportedly got out of his vehicle and continued following the woman on foot along the path, police said.

The woman was able to hide from the man in the residential area of Moorefield Creek Road, S.W., and the man then continued down Tapawingo Road, S.W.

Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the man, police said.

MOTHER, DAUGHTER HIDE FROM SUSPICIOUS MEN IN VEHICLE IN VIENNA: A woman and her adult daughter were walking near Meadow Lane and Stephen Circle, S.W., on July 14 at 10:52 p.m. when they observed a motorist drive a vehicle erratically into the cul-de-sac, turn off the vehicle’s headlights and drive back toward the pair, Vienna police said.

The vehicle was occupied by four younger men who were using flashlights to look out of the vehicle, police said. The two women ran to a nearby house, where the homeowner let them in. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the men or the vehicle, police said.

VIENNA POLICE ARREST NAKED DISTRICT MAN, 54, ON INDECENT-EXPOSURE CHARGE: Vienna police officers responded July 13 at 8:10 p.m. to the report of a man walking around without clothes on in the 300 block of Maple Avenue, E.

Police located the man behind one of the businesses as he was cleaning himself.

Police arrested the 54-year-old District of Columbia man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with indecent exposure.

VIENNA STORE EMPLOYEE SCARES OFF SCAMMERS TRYING TO INSTALL CARD SKIMMER: An employee at Wawa, 465 Maple Ave., W., informed Vienna police July 16 at 5:55 p.m. that a couple had come into the store and the woman had distracted the employee while the man attempted to install what the employee believed was a card skimmer to the register’s card reader.

When the employee confronted the man, the couple fled from the store with the device. The device was never secured to the reader, and no financial loss occurred, police said.

VIENNA RESIDENT REPORTS UNAUTHORIZED CREDIT-CARD CHARGES: A resident living in the 200 block of Cherry Street, S.W., reported unauthorized charges had been made on her credit-card accounts between May 24 and July 8, Vienna police said.

DRIVER CITED IN VIENNA AFTER STRIKING FENCE: A motorist who was turning left from Casmar Street, S.E., onto Desale Street on July 9 at 1:41 p.m. lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the roadway and struck a fence, Vienna police said.

Police issued the driver a summons charging failure to pay full time and attention.

VIENNA POLICE ISSUE HUNDREDS OF CITATIONS IN STOP-SIGN ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN: In one of their yearly targeted-enforcement campaigns, officers with the Vienna Police Department Operations Division this past month cracked down on stop-sign violations within the community and issued 236 stop-sign citations and 153 citations for various other traffic violations, officials announced July 16.

The Vienna Police Department will continue to conduct selective-enforcement campaigns in coming months. Vienna police thanked community members who contacted the department and made it aware of specific problem intersections, which officers will continue to monitor.
