Vienna Town Council members on June 3 unanimously approved a $237,030 contract with US Concrete and Paving Inc. to build a sidewalk along Frederick Street, S.W., between Meadow Lane and Tapawingo Road.

The project will be built along the east (odd-numbered) side of the street and involve 1,000 feet of concrete sidewalk, 172 square yards of concrete driveway entrance, 50 square feet of Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps, 60 tons of asphalt paving and miscellaneous other items, officials said.

The Council in August 2023 awarded a $78,450 contract to Urban Ltd. to design the project. Construction will begin in late June or early July and finish sometime this fall, said Vienna Public Works Director Brad Baer.

The initiative is being financed through the Maud Ferris Robinson Charitable Trust, which was set up following the former Town Council member’s death in March 2019. Robinson bequeathed $7 million to the town for sidewalk projects.
