A Court of Honor ceremony for three new Eagle Scouts at Boy Scout Troop 1978 in Vienna as held Sept. 26, 2023, at St. Mark Catholic Church.

Melissa Brown and siblings Jonah and Hanna Cline of Boy Scout Troop 1978 of Vienna ascended to Eagle Scout rank during a Court of Honor ceremony held Sept. 26 at St. Mark Catholic Church.

> Jonah Cline is a junior at James Madison High School in Vienna and earned the Eagle Scout rank in February. He joined the troop after bridging from Cub Scout Pack 1139 into Troop 13 and later transferred into Troop 1978. (Several members of his Cub Scout den attended the ceremony.)

His Eagle Scout Project was performed over many months with three days of pulling invasive plants species in Difficult Run Stream Valley Park, including an educational component about the importance of native plants and the harm that invasive species can do to the area. He earned two Eagle Palms for work above and beyond that required for Eagle rank.

> Melissa Brown is a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, and earned the Eagle Scout rank in February, becoming the eighth female Eagle Scout in Troop 1978.

Her Eagle Scout project supported Flint Hill Elementary School by building a chicken coop in one of its courtyards while leading the Scouts to help design and build the project.

She is a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.

> Hanna Cline is a freshman at James Madison High School and earned the Eagle Scout rank in June, becoming the ninth  Girl Eagle Scout from Troop 1978. She began her scouting journey as a Cub Scout in Pack 1139 during 2018 and became the first girl to bridge into Troop 1978 in 2020.

Her Eagle Scout Project was planting native species around the Vienna Town Green for all to enjoy, a role that also included teaching attendees and people walking through about how to plant the plants correctly while learning how to accomplish a project within the town-government structure.

She received three Eagle Palms for work above and beyond that required for Eagle Rank.
