An even (and team-record-setting) 300 career points was the final total Hudson Greene compiled in four seasons playing boys varsity lacrosse for the Yorktown Patriots high-school team.
In addition to being the team’s career leader in points, Greene also is Yorktown’s all-time leader in goals scored with 166 and assists for 134.
This spring, the senior attacks set three single-season team records for goals scored (57), assists (49) and points (109). He was chosen as the Liberty District’s Player of the Year and was a first-team all-6D North Region selection. Greene likely will be chosen first-team all-state for the second straight season on the Class 6 level.
His total of 300 career points are 90 more than Charlie Tiene’s second-place total of 210. Greene also gathered 56 career ground balls.
Greene’s varsity career began late in his freshman season, when he was promoted to the varsity from the junior varsity late in the season. Green’s one varsity point scored as a freshman was an assist.
As a sophomore, Greene quickly became a prolific scorer with 54 points and 43 assists.
“We kept Hudson on the junior varsity as a freshman so he could get the experience of playing against the other teams’ top defenders,” Yorktown varsity head coach Greg Beer said. “When he got to varsity, he was prepared for that type of defense.”
Beer said he recognized immediately during Greene’s freshman year that he would likely become a top scorer.
“He had a great lacrosse IQ, was smooth in his play and was very comfortable on the field,” Beer said.
Greene’s biggest scoring game this season were the four goals and six assists he tallied against Langley. He scored a single-game season-high six goals in a win over Washington-Liberty.
Greene will continue playing lacrosse next spring at Division III Bowdoin College in Maine. The team reached NCAA Division III tournament semifinals this season.
Greene helped Yorktown win a Liberty District tournament championship this spring, reach the semifinals of the region tourney and finish with a 14-5 record.
Greene scored one goal and had three assists in his final high-school contest.
