Yorktown High grads enjoy success in women's college lacrosse

A number of Yorktown High School graduates played on women's college lacrosse teams during the spring.

 

Yorktown High School graduates and sisters Kate and Ainsley Burke each continued their college lacrosse careers this past spring, playing for different Division III women’s teams in the same Northeast conference.

Kate Burke was a senior attack for the  undefeated and NCAA champion Middlebury College squad in Vermont. The national title was the third in a row for Middlebury, which also finished 23-0 a year ago, 22-1 in 2022 and ended the 2024 campaign with a 51-match winning streak.

Kate Burke had to overcome a knee injury during her college career. She played in 12 games this past season. For her career she scored three goals.

At Yorktown, Kate Burke scored 86 goals and had 102 points during the 2019 season.

Ainsley Burke was a sophomore attack for the Colby College team in Maine this past spring. She helped the squad finish 13-7 and reach the NCAA tournament, finishing 2-1.

Ainsley Burke played in 17 matches in 2024, scoring two goals, taking nine shots and gathering nine ground balls. For her career, Ainsley Burke has five goals and four assists, with 19 ground balls.

Colby and Middlebury met twice this past spring, in regular-season and tournament play. The colleges are members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

Yorktown graduate Olivia Klein also plays in that conference for Wesleyan University in Connecticut. The senior goalie played in seven games this past season, making seven saves.

Another Yorktown grad, Cammie Kuwana, played in college at the University of Chicago, graduating this past spring. Kuwana scored 25 goals and had 19 assists in 2024, helping the team win a conference-tournament championship. She scored 81 career goals.
