The Yorktown Patriots won the night of Sept. 6 to improve to 2-0 but head coach Bruce Hanson was not happy with how his football team played in the non-district high-school game.

Too many mistakes and uneven play was how Hanson described the 28-13 home win over Jackson-Reed.

"We didn't practice well all week, then we didn't look good in the game," Hanson said. "We need to be better. So we are treating this game like a loss. We will make some changes and be better in coming practices."

Yorktown quarterback Drew Morgan was 10 of 16 passing for 189 yards in the win, including touchdown passes of 21 yards to Max Troiano and 39 to Finn Luca. Brady Owens ran 43 yards and Nate Randles one yard for Yorktown's other two TDs. Max Yoon kicked four extra points.

Yorktown missed wto field goals.

Coby Casalengo had 127 yards rushing for Yorktown, Owens had 43, Randles 21 and Morgan five. Yorktown had 398 total yards. Luca had six catches for 126 yards. Troiano three for 56 and Casalengo one for 7.

On defense for Yorktown, Anthony Rucker and Owen Woodward had interceptions. Hewitt Ebert and J.J.Randisi recovered fumbles. Bobby Shea had a sack and made six tackles.

Yorktown hosts the Wakefield Warriors (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 13 in an all-Arlington and Liberty District contest.

Wakefield finished 0-10 last season, but is much improved this fall, according to Hanson.

"We're going to have a tough game against them. They are better than before," Hanson said.

Wakefield improved to 1-1 by routing Anacostia of D.C., 39-12, in Sept. 6 non-district play. The loss ended Wakefield's four-season, 22-game losing streak. The Warriors were 0-10 the past two seasons.

The 39 points were the most Wakefield scored in a game since amassing 46 against former Lee High School, now Lewis, in the seventh game of the 2019 campaign.

Against Anacostia, Wakefield had 234 total yards and scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams.

On offense, runningback Isaiah Ledbetter ran for 212 yards and two TDs, Judah Connor passed for 109 yards and a TD and Andrew Walton had three catches for 34 yards.

On special teams, Chris Gilpin had a 65-yard kickoff return for a score. He also caught passes on offense.

On defense, Kwante Hamlin had a fumble recovery for a touchdown with the help of Ashton Hirst. Greg Jones also recovered a fumble for the Wakefield defense.

Also on defense, Hirst had 7.5 tackles, with two for losses and a sack, Hamlin had 5.5 tackles and Jones 4.5, including 1.5 for losses.
