Richard Ptakowski, who coached the Washington-Liberty High School girls varsity soccer team for the past six seasons, has stepped down from that position.

Ptakowski decided it was time to leave because he didn’t have the same passion to coach as before.

“I  reflect on the position after each season, and decided after this past season that I was kind of done,”  Ptakowski said. “I just didn’t have the same passion to continue coaching anymore. It’s a decision I feel good about.”

Ptakowski had success as the W-L coach, leading the team to the Liberty District tournament championship this past season and to the semifinals of the 6D North Region tourney.

“The team will have a lot of good players returning this coming season, so they will do well again,” Ptakowski said.

Ptakowski, who played Division I men’s college soccer at West Virginia University, continues as the boys and girls head soccer coach at Swanson Middle School in Arlington, which plays its seasons during the fall.

Washington-Liberty director of student activities Justin Bolfek asked that anyone interested in applying for the girls head coaching soccer position at the school should email him at justin.bolfek@apsva.us with a letter of interest about the job and a resume.
