Washington-Liberty baseball team wins to snap losing streak

Generals' pitchers combine to strike out nine with no walks

Will Thompson was the starting and winning pitcher for Washington-Liberty against Thomas Jefferson.

Behind a strong pitching performance from senior left-hander Will Thompson and two triples by sophomore Sean Guffey, the Washington-Liberty Generals snapped a nine-game losing strike with a 9-2 victory over the Jefferson Colonials in a May 1 high-school baseball game at Barcroft Park.

Thompson started and pitched 6 1/3 innings. He allowed five hits, no earned runs, struck out seven, did not walk a batter and threw 110 pitches. The win was his second of the season, with his first coming during the Generals spring-break trip to Myrtle Beach.

Jack Keane fanned two, did not allow a hit, run or walk a batter in his 2/3 innings of relief. The two pitches combined to strike out nine and neither walked a batter.

The win snapped Washington-Liberty’s nine-game losing streak. The nine runs were the Generals' most in a game this season.

With the bat for the Generals, Sean Guffey had two triples and three RBI, Jack Guffey had two hits, including a double, and drove in two, Keane and Alex Frymoyer each had a hit and one RBI, and Sam Jackman and Sam Abramowicz had hits.
