Wakefield High wrestler wins weight class at junior nationals

Cameron Millsapps and Charlotte Bowman were top finishers in a junior national wrestling tournament.

Wakefield High School wrestler Cameron Millsapps won a recent wrestling championship at the girls 16-under Junior Nationals Beach Bash showcase event in Fargo, N.D.

Millsapps won the 155-pound weight class with a 3-0 record, helping the Virginia squad win the team title. Yorktown High’s Charlotte Bowman finished second in that weight class.

Millsapps and Bowman were top finishers during this past winter’s high-school season in girls district, region and state competition. Bowman placed fourth in the Virginia High School League’s Girls State Open at 152 pounds and Millsapps was sixth at the same weight.

At the Virginia Wrestler Association’s girls freestyle state high-school tournament, Millsapps finished second at 155 and Bowman third.

The two met a few times, trading victories.
