Washington-Liberty's Brian Baptiste has helped the team to a 3-0 start.

With a blowout road win the night of Sept. 8, the Washington-Liberty Generals improved to 3-0, which sets up a big showdown with Arlington and Liberty District high-school football rival Yorktown Patriots, also 3-0, this coming week.

That clash is scheduled for Thursday night, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at Yorktown.

“Washington-Liberty is playing well and we have a ways to go to get better,” Yorktown coach Bruce Hanson said. “It should be a good game.”

In that Sept. 8 game, Washington-Liberty routed the Lewis Lancers, 49-7. Washington-Liberty, which is averaging 47.7 points per contest through three outings, has yet to play a league opponent.

• In the win, quarterback Jon Bhojwani passed for 129 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions, and Anthony Louis ran for 125 yards and one score.

Bhojwani’s scoring passes went to Jackson Nowinski (five catches, 54 yards), Luke Harnishfeger and Jonathan Malatesta (two catches, 27 yards). Joseph Cordaro had three catches for 34 yards and Louis one for 10.

“We can move the ball and our offense has exceeded expectations so far, and our offensive line has played well,” Washington-Liberty coach Josh Shapiro said. “We will need to be good against Yorktown.”

On defense for W-L against Lewis, Connor Hurren, Roman Falvo, Sean Guffey, Timothy Tinker and Will Clarke were leading tackles and Ryan Date had a 22-yard interception return for a score.

Guffey blocked a punt that he returned 16 yards for a touchdown.

Marcelo Carrasquillo kicked five extra points.

Lewis amassed a modest 142 total yards, only 11 rushing.

NOTE: Washington-Liberty has not defeated Yorktown since the 2016 season.
