Summer diving season includes a number of top local participants

Michayla Eisenberg of Overlee pool in Arlington is a top diver in the Northern Virginia Swimming League this summer.

As the diving meets in the Northern Virginia Swimming League continue for a few more weeks, the competition includes a number of participants from GazetteLeader coverage areas who were standout high-school divers the last few seasons.

On the girls side, former state champions Ellie Joyce dives for Arlington’s Dominion Hills and Michayla Eisenberg for Arlington’s Overlee. Joyce won a Class 6 public-school girls state crown for Washington-Liberty High. Eisenberg won Division I state private-school titles for Flint Hill.

Each are undefeated this summer in the NVSL’s senior girls division.

Jocelyn Brooks from McLean High and Kent Gardens pool of the NVSL, Isabelle Whang of Oakton High and Oakton pool of the NVSL and Stella Barcley from Yorktown High and the NVSL’s Overlee pool are other top female divers. Brooks finished second in girls Class 6 state diving this past winter,  Whang was fourth, with Barclay 12th.

Joyce was a top diver for the University of North Carolina’s women’s team this past winter. She placed fifth in the one-meter  competition of Atlantic Coast Conference championships.

On the boys side, Nick Wanzer of Vienna Woods and Thibault Lede and Brendan Do of Oakton pool are top divers.

Wanzer was third in the boys Class 6 state meet for McLean High this past winter, and Doe and Thibault were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the state for Oakton High.

The NVSL diving season continues for the rest of the month for a number of meets.
