Storm Black finish 3-1 in pool play at Babe Ruth World Series

The Southeast Region champion Arlington Babe Ruth Storm Black 10-under All-Stars finished 3-1 in the pool-play baseball competition of the Babe Ruth World Series in Crown Point, Ind.

Arlington is one of 25 baseball teams competing in the Cal Ripken Division of the Series.

Participating in Pool 5, the Storm Black defeated Vincennes of Indiana, 5-3, in their first game, nipped Moravia from the Czech Republic, 2-1, in their second, blanked Wenatchee of Washington state, 10-0, in their third, then lost to Southeastern, Ky.,  5-1, in their final game.

Next, Arlington advances to the playoff round.

Against Vincennes, Teddy LeCompte had a hit and two RBI. Also with hits and RBI were Connor Bristow, Christian Tallent, Bryce Donnelly and Hudson Wilkins.

Chase Langley was the starting and winning pitcher and Wilkins earned the save.

The Storm Black built a 5-0 lead, then hung on.

Arlington trailed Moravia 1-0. Wilkins provided a game-winning RBI triple, with Matthew Ryan and LeCompte having key hits.

Flynn Juza was the winning pitcher in relief and Ryan earned the save.

Against Wenatchee, LeCompte doubled and had three hits; Sean Duckett doubled and had a two-run single; Wilkins doubled and had two RBI; Ryan Potter had a sacrifice fly; Ryan doubled and singled; Donnelly, Flynn and Langley had hits; and Bristow had an RBI.

Dexter Hinkle was the starting and winning pitcher and Tallent pitched in relief.

Wenatchee was the Pacific Northwest Region tournament champion.

Bruce Buczek contributed in the wins.

In the loss, Arlington trailed 5-0 before scoring its only run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI hit by Hinkle. Buczek was among the players who had hits.

The top three teams in each pool advance to the championship playoff bracket. Arlington was scheduled to play New Canaan of Connecticut in its first game. New Canaan also finished 3-1 in pool play.

The Storm Black won the Southeast region with a 5-0 record. Prior to the region, the team finished 5-1 and second in the state tournament.

Overall, the Storm Black entered the World Series with a 19-12 record against all competition.
