Arlington summertime swimming teams finish regular seasons

Fort Myer, Arlington Forest squads each finish strong, with 3-2 records

There were no division champions this summer among the six Arlington teams in either the Northern Virginia Swimming League or Colonial Swimming League that concluded their five-week, dual-meet regular seasons the morning of July 13.

In the Colonial Swimming League, the two-time highest Red Division champion Arlington Knights of Columbus Holy Mackerels finished second with a 4-1 record, winning its final four meets.

The Holy Mackerels defeated visiting Cascades, 317-134, in their final dual meet of 2024.

In the league's lower W‪hite Division of the CSL, the Fort Myer Squids (3-2) of Arlington won their final three meets to end up tied for second place while recording their best record since 2019. Fort Myer topped host Chinquapin of Alexandria, 281-170, in its last meet.

For the Holy Mackerels in the win, Will Coleman, Summer Springer, Elizabeth Pilot and Zach Black were triple winners. Jack Parker, Abby Duffy, Aubrey Larson and James Coleman were double winners. Single winners were Azmera Gebre, Savigna Neely Martin, William Silver, Vickie Gammell, James Hilsmier, Arriam Gebre, Jaqueline Barrett, Tommy Coleman, Sedona Springer and Mary Hecmanczuk.

At the meet, Sedona Springer lowered her record in the girls 9-10 breaststroke to 43.88 and Summer Springer lowered her mark in the 11-12 girls breast to 39.28.

For Fort Myer, Zack Berner broke a league record in 15-18 backstroke in a time of 23.97 and  won two races.

Other double winners for Fort Myer were Sasha Taylor, Bruce Truong, Presley Henderson, Aileen Kee, Ella Browne, Peter Sheehey and Caroline Lipscomb. Single winners were Finn Harper, Drew Loughry, Willa McCarthy, Sophia Bhave, Gavin Heeb, Claire Hystad and Evelyn Logsdon.

* In the NVSL, Arlington's Overlee Flying Fish (3-2) finished third in Division 1, losing their final meet of the season to the host Tuckahoe Tigers, 221.5-198.5, and Arlington's Donaldson Run Thunderbolts finished both 2-3 and fourth in Division 1 for the fourth season in a row.

Donaldson Run lost its final meet to visiting Chesterbrook, 290-130.

In Division 7 of the NVSL, Arlington's Dominion Hills Thunder Ducks finished 1-4, falling to visitng Sleepy Hollow Bath and Recreation, 229-191, in the squad's final meet.

In Division 9 of the NVSL, the Arlington Forest Tigers (3-2) finished their season with two straight victories to have their most wins since 2016 and place third in the standings.

For Overlee in the loss to Tuckahoe, the Tigers led, 48-42, after the initial freestyle races and maintained the lead the rest of the meet. The teams split winning the 12 relays.

Double winners for Overlee were Abigail Hartman, Samantha Bravery, Violet Mullen, McKinley Busen, Sully Portner and Sia Nicholakos. Single winners were Brendan Finnerty, Will Cravens, Tyler Hong, Vikas Gonzalez, Jackson Bravery, Jack Yost, Alex Bristow, Charleigh Cravens and Mary Pickens.

Mullen set team records in the girls age 11-12 freestyle (28.76) and 11-12 butterfly (30.40). The 13-14 Overlee boys broke the 100 medley relay record with a time of 54.96.

For Dominion Hills in its meet, double winners were Andrew Aldonas, Matild Macskasi and Henry Smith. Single winners were Emma Richard, Kleo Macskasi, Shuai Myers, Beckett Langsdale, Victor Malini and Allie Ervin.

Leading Donaldson Run was double winner Rachel Conley. Single winners were Theo Cahill, Avery Wishneff, Caroline Baca, William McCool, Charlie Greenwood and James Madden.

For Arlington Forest, double winners were Nola Felisa Tanyag, Cole Klapmust, Evan Dickey, Olivia Willard, Eli Martin, Hellen Huggler and Anna Dansereau. Single winners were Alexandra Seidman, Mitchell Klapmust, Sophia Cordon, Damian Kaczor, Brandon Dasch and Quinn Bryer.
