The Arlington Senior Babe Ruth age 13-16 All-Stars finished second in the recent state tournament.

The Arlington Senior Babe Ruth age 13-16 All-Stars finished second in the recent state baseball tournament, losing to Manassas, 9-0, in the championship game.

The tournament was in Lawrenceville, Va.

Arlington finished with a 4-2 record in the tourney.

The All-Stars defeated Nottoway, 13-1, in the first round, lost to Lakeside, 5-4, in their second game, defeated Winchester, 7-1, Northern Fairfax County, 7-4, topped Lakeside, 7-5, then lost to Manassas in the final.

Prior to the state competition, Arlington dominated and won the District 6 tournament with a 3-0 record. The team downed Vienna by 14-0 and 11-0 scores and Springfield, 13-0.

Players for the Arlington team are Alex Goodell, Ben Keppler, Brooks Clements, Chris Layman, Drew Welch, Griggs Rupert, Jack Ingram, Kyle Matsko, Patrick Mellett, Reid Schwartz, Ryan Cooney, Ryan Sullivan, Tim Fulton and Trip Williams.

Even though Arlington finished second in the state tournament, it still earned a berth to play in the Southeast Region tourney in Fort Myers, Fla. Manassas also is in the nine-team tournament.
