Early leads didn't last as the season ended for Arlington Post 1995 with an 0-2 record in the double-elimination American Legion state baseball tournament in Chesapeake.
Arlington (13-14) lost to Leesburg Post 34 by a 10-7 score in the first round after leading 3-0, then fell to Kingstowne District 17 by a 6-4 final in the losers'-bracket after having a brief 1-0 advantage.
Post 1995 qualified for the state tournament by finishing second in the preceding District 17 tourney. Arlington was playing in the state competition for the fourth straight season.
Against Leesburg, Bradley Labant had three hits for Arlington, Sam Abramowicz had an RBI single, brothers Jake and Sean Guffey drew bases-loaded walks, with Jake Guffey adding a two-run single, Thomas Koomey had a two-run double and James Pilot and Will Thompson singled.
Kingstowne scored six runs in the third inning to take the lead for good with the help of multiple walks, two errors and a hit batter in that frame.
Koomey had a two-run triple for Arlington, Jake Guffey had an RBI double, Bryan Slattery drew a bases-loaded walk and James Sharkey singled.
Kingstowne and Arlington split two games in the preceding district tournament.
