Letter: Roy is the obvious choice to move Arlington forward

'You only have to listen to her at community forums to hear her command of Arlington issues with knowledgeable observations, and, maybe more importantly, solutions.'

To the editor: Natalie Roy is heads and shoulders above every other candidate in the Democratic primary for the open seat on the Arlington County Board.

A longtime Arlington resident and Realtor, she has led the opposition to the County Board’s disastrous Missing Middle elimination of single-family zoning.

The Missing Middle decision was a boon not just for developers but for real-estate agents, too. But wait: Natalie is a real estate agent. That is how she makes a living. You mean her opposition to Missing Middle means she is cutting her own throat financially? Who does that?

The answer: a principled, independent, thoughtful candidate who is willing to stand up to the powers that be. That includes the current County Board, which has sought to intimidate residents supporting the lawsuit against the county’s disastrous rezoning policy.

One of Roy’s opponents, one of the two in the race supporting the developers, calls Natalie “a single-issue” candidate. She agrees. Her issue is the future of Arlington. You only have to listen to her at community forums to hear her command of Arlington issues with knowledgeable observations, and, maybe more importantly, solutions.

For that reason, she has a long list of local endorsements. Those endorsers appreciate how she has headed her local community association, coached the Yorktown tennis team and run a business.

At a time when others pay lip service to environmentalism, Natalie conducts her real-estate business on a bike.

Who does that? Natalie Roy does.
