[Update, 9/14/24:]

Heavy rains perhaps amounting to a deluge is a Northern Virginia scenario becoming more plausible, according to the GazetteLeader's official weather partner, AccuWeather.

Tropical precipitation could hit as early as Tuesday [9/17] and linger for 48 hours as the storm moves north offshore.

That weathermaker is unconnected with Tropical Storm Gordon, which currently is churning across open Atlantic Ocean seas and could pose a problem later.

[Original coverage, 9/13/24:]

A relatively quiet tropical season in the Atlantic suddenly is starting to get busy, and the GazetteLeader's official weather partner, AccuWeather, says Northern Virginia could face the impact of a developing tropical-storm system.

It's too early to know for sure, but it is worth keeping an eye on for the next few days, to see what might develop by the middle of next week.

Either way, the region should brace for the possibility of multiple days of rain next week. Which should be helpful, considering much of Virginia is facing drought or semi-drought conditions.
