Police: Machete-wielding suspect arrested near Clarendon

33-year-old suspect also charged with public intoxication

On Sept. 4 at 3:16 a.m., a man was outside a residential building in the 2300 block of 11th Street North when he observed a man walking by holding a machete, Arlington police said.

A short time later, the suspect returned and, during a conversation with the victim, allegedly brandished the machete, police said. When the victim ran, the suspect began chasing him while making threatening statements, police said.

The victim was able to get to a safe location and contact police; responding officers took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect – 33-year-old Jose Gutierrez Del Cid of Arlington – was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding, brandishing and public intoxication. He was held without bond.
