A Juneteenth celebration and cookout sponsored by a coalition of local organizations will be held Wednesday, June 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Metropolitan Park, 1400 South Eads St. in Arlington.

“Join us as we honor those who came before us, celebrating their fight for freedom,” organizers said.

Host groups include the Arlington Coalition of Black Clergy, Arlington Historical Society, Black Heritage Museum of Arlington, Challenging Racism and the NAACP Arlington Branch. The grand sponsor is Amazon.

“We are excited to provide an inclusive space for Arlington to enjoy live performances [and] fun activities and connect in celebration of liberation,” they said. “Together, we will reflect on our present achievements and unite in our determination to create a brighter future for generations to come.”

The event, which will be held rain or shine, is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. Three-hour parking is free at the garage at 510 and 525 14th St. South.
