A 30-year-old Lorton man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and distribution of controlled substances in connection with the June 29 death of an Arlington man from fentanyl intoxication, Arlington police said.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of South Courthouse Road at 10:06 p.m. on June 29 for a report of a medical emergency. Despite efforts by county police and fire units, the individual was pronounced dead.

An autopsy conducted by the county government’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined cause of death to be acute fentanyl and mirtazapine intoxication.

As a result of investigation, detectives identified the individual suspected of supplying the deceased with controlled substances and warrants were obtained for his arrest.

The suspect – Armand Navarro – was being held on unrelated charges in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center when served with paperwork related to the Arlington incident.
