ASSAULT ON POLICE:

• On June 25 at 7:45 p.m., a man observed one individual yelling at another inside a vehicle in the 2600 block of Langston Boulevard and banging on the vehicle’s window, Arlington police said.

The suspect then entered the driver’s seat and turned the vehicle on, police said.

The victim was recording the incident with his phone when the suspect allegedly exited the vehicle and knocked the phone out of his hand, police said.

As a responding officer attempted to detain the suspect, he became combative and struggled with and assaulted the office, police said.

Bystanders attempted to assist the officer during the incident, police said, and with the assistance of arriving officers, he was taken into custody.

The suspect – 26-year-old Ruben Gurdea of Annandale – was arrested and charged with assault on police, assault-and-battery, driving under the influence and obstruction of justice. He was held on a secured bond.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING:

• On June 24 at 12:19 a.m., two men were inside a business in the 4800 block of Langston Boulevard when two other men entered and a verbal dispute ensued, Arlington police said.

According to police, the suspects then physically assaulted the victims before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

One of the victims was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries considered serious but non-life-threatening. The second victim declined medical treatment.

The suspects are described as white males, in their teens or early 20s.

• On June 28 at 5:02 p.m., four individuals inside a parking garage in the 2900 block of South Randolph Street became engaged in a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical confrontation, Arlington police said.

A witness who attempted to break up the fight was assaulted, then deployed pepper spray before running fom the scene. Two combatants also fled the second before police arrival.

No significant injuries were reported, police said.

CARJACKING:

• On June 25 at 5:42 p.m., a man had parked his vehicle at 15th Street South and South Eads Street when an other vehicle pulled behind him, Arlington police said.

According to police, an individual then entered the victim’s vehicle and drove away with it with the other suspect following in the suspect vehicle.

The victim’s vehicle is described as a 2013 black Audi A6 with Virginia license plates.

The suspects are described as black males, one 5’10” and the other 5’6”.

ROBBERY:

• On June 25 at 2:52 a.m., a man was approached by a woman in the vicinity of North Glebe Road at North Pershing Drive, and the woman implied she had a knife, Arlington police said.

The suspect stole cash before fleeing. She is described as an Hispanic female, 25 to 35 years old, 5’5” to 5’8”, 150 to 170 pounds, with long black hair.

• On June 26 at 1:52 p.m., an individual was inside a business in the 1800 block of North Lynn Street when he was approached by four suspects who made threatening statements and stole cash, Arlington police said.

The suspects are described as a black male, 5’8” or 5’9”, 120 pounds, with dreadlocks; an Hispanic female with medium build; a black male, tall; and a female of unknown race.

• On June 29 at 10:15 a.m., an individual entered a business in the 4600 block of King Street, selected merchandise and attempted to leave without paying, Arlington police said.

An employee confronted the suspect, who proceeded to assault the employee and lift his shirt to display a firearm before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as a black male with long dreadlocks.

• On June 29 at 12:10 p.m., an individual entered a business in the 3900 block of Langston Boulevard, brandished a firearm and demanded cash, Arlington police said.

The suspect fled after receiving cash.

• On June 29 at 4:04 p.m., an individual was at a bus stop in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive when an individual approached, took his phone and ran from the area.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’9”, with short dreadlocks.

LARCENY FROM AUTO:

• Sometime between June 25 at noon and June 26 at 1 p.m., glass from the side-view mirrors of 14 vehicles was stolen from an area that included the 2500 block of South Arlington Mill Drive, 2100 block of South Quebec Street, 2800 block of South Wakefield Street and 400 block of 4th Street South.

Glass was damaged on three other vehicles in the area. No other items were reported damaged or stolen.

• Sometime between June 27 at 9 p.m. and June 28 at 12:55 p.m., glass from the side-view mirrors of three vehicles were stolen in the 3700 block of 7th Street North.

No other items were reported damaged or stolen.

BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:

• On June 27 at 2:28 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Military Road for a report of a burglary in progress.

Responding officers determined that the suspect or suspects gained entry to one of the two vehicles at the home, rummaged through the interiors and used a garage-door opener to open the garage.

No items were reported damaged or stolen from the garage or the vehicles.

• Sometime between June 28 at 6:30 p.m. and June 29 at 10:30 a.m., a home in the 6200 block of 19th Street North was burglarized.

A wallet, credit cards, personal identification and keys were taken.

• On June 29 at 10:34 a.m., an individual allegedly entered the back yard of a home in the 1300 block of North Stuart Street and attempted to gain entry to the home.

Arriving officers located the suspect on scene, took him into custody and determined he had entered a shed and was in possession of property belonging to the homeowner.

The suspect – 26-year-old Demarco Green of no fixed address – was arrested and charged with burglary.

ARREST MADE IN MAY SEXUAL ASSAULT:

• A 42-year-old Arlington man was arrested in connection with a May 21 sexual assault, Arlington police said.

According to police, the female victim exited a nightlife establishment in the 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard during the early-morning hours when she was approached by an individual in a vehicle, which the victim entered, police said.

During the course of the ride, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the victim before she was able to exit the vehicle, police said.

The suspect was not operating as a ride-share driver at the time, police said.

During the course of the investigation, detectives reviewed evidence and conducted witness interviews. The review resulted in additional information that led detectives to identify the suspect and obtain warrants for the arrest of Julio Basurto.

Basurto, who was arrested the evening of June 22, was charged with abduction and forcible sodomy.  The incident may be connected to other incidents in the area, police said.

CHAMBER PRESENTS PUBLIC-SAFETY AWARDS:

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce on June 27 bestowed its annual Public-Safety Awards, representing outstanding achievement by local personnel over the past year and throughout their careers.

Honored with the Valor Award were Sgt. Jeffrey Lubin, Cpl. Shawn Playford, Cpl. Davey Tucker Jr., Officer Patrick Bane, Officer Connor DiVincenzo, Officer Conor Fitzgerald and Officer Quinton Johnson of the Arlington County Police Department.

Honored with the Life-Saving Award were Public-Safety Communicator Dina Alkhawaja of the Arlington County Department of Public-Safety Communications and Emergency Management; Cpl. Ly Phan of the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office; and Cpls. Thomas DeNoville and Ryan Williams.

Receiving Meritorious Service Awards, representing achievement over an extended period of time, were Firefighter Kevin Travers of the Arlington County Fire Department; Inmate Service Counselor II Camille Watkin of the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office; Lt. Michael Laird of the Arlington County Police Department; and the Emergency Communications Center shift led by Operations Supervisors Catherine Dawkins and Kristine Mangione of the Arlington County Department of Public-Safety Communications and Emergency Management.
