Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia will present an online program – “Plant Names and the Science Behind Them” – on Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m.

Extension Master Gardeners Rebecca Secula and Evin Morrison will discuss how plants receive their names.

“A rose by any other name might smell as sweet, but knowing and understanding the scientific nomenclature of your favorite plants is not only interesting, but a necessary tool in your garden toolkit,” organizers said.

“By the end of this session, you’ll be ready to jump-start your fall and spring plantings with plenty of panting tips, growing appreciation and a better appreciation for how much really goes into a name,” they said.

The program is free. For information and to register, see the Website at http://mgnv.org/rsvp-for-public-education-classes.
