Patrick Henry Library in Vienna will host a program on the USS Houston and World War II prisoner-of-war experiences on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m.

Speaker John Schwarz is the son of Otto Schwarz, one of the survivors of the U.S. Navy heavy cruiser USS Houston’s sinking during World War II. The few survivors became prisoners of war for the duration of the conflict, and many were forced into labor on what was known as the Burma-Thailand Death Railway, depicted in the motion picture “Bridge on the River Kwai.”

The program is free. For information and registration, call the library at (703) 938-0405 or see the Website at https://librarycalendar.fairfaxcounty.gov/event/11736096.
