Wakefield girls, boys track and field teams win Titan Classic

Squads combined to win 15 events, each scores well more than 100 points

The Wakefield High School girls track and field team won the Titan Classic Invitational meet.

Led by 15 combined victories in events, the Wakefield Warriors won the girls and boys team championships at the recent Titan Classic Invitational track and field meet at Alexandria City High School.

The girls won eight events to amass 146 points and the boys captured seven to score 177.

The meet championships were the second in recent days for each team, having previously won the Arlington County meets.

Leading the Wakefield girls at the Titan Classic was four-event individual winner Kenedy Shields. She was first in the 100 dash (12.56), the 200 (26.64), the long jump (16-5) and the high jump (5-2). Shields also ran on the winning 4x100 relay (49.91).

Other winners for the girls were Addison Young (steeplechase, 7:29.39), Leah Wargo (3,200, 13.18) and the 4x400 relay (4:08.52).

Second were Julissa Hernandez Pereira (discus), Ada Jordan (800), Sofia Vazquez (pole vault) and Gennesee Rivera Dobbler (3,200).

Third were Kennedy McClary (200 and 400) and Nadia Rowe (3,200).

Hosanna Connor was fourth in the triple jump and fifth were Quincy Daigle (1,600) and Eulalia Sarli (800).

Leading the Wakefield boys were double winners Silas Lesprance in the 200 (22.73) and 400 (51.49) and Chris Gilpin in the long jump (22-1) and 100 (11.0).

Frank Mani won the triple jump (42-8), Ben Chapuis the high jump (6-2), Jackson Gray the pole vault (12-3) and Liam Keish the 1,600 (4:36.41). Keish also was second in the 800.

Second were Thuyon Smith (100 and 200), Diego Fernandez (pole vault), Charles Randolph (discus and fifth in the shot), Mikey Johnson (high jump), Travon Buckner (triple jump and fourth in the long jump) and Owen Jacques (long jump and third in the 100).

Also third was Ian Maguire (steeplechase).

Fifth were Andrew Coe (steeplechase), Daniel Herring (1,600), Joseph Sparks (800) and Noah Gunville (3,200). John Guy was sixth in the 3,200.

Next for the Wakefield teams are the Liberty District championships. The Warriors will host and be top contenders.
