Officers of election to earn more in Arlington later in year

County budget increases pay $25 to $200 for those who work in precincts

They still won’t be getting rich off the gig, but Arlington’s officers of election will be pocketing slightly more starting in November for their service at the polls.

As part of the fiscal 2025 budget adopted by the Arlington County Board, those who assist at precincts during elections will see their pay bump up from $175 to $200. That’s for a day’s work that averages about 15 hours.

The chiefs and deputies at each of Arlington’s precincts earn slightly more.

The new reimbursements kick in with the start of the county government’s fiscal year on July 1, so they will not apply to the June 18 primaries.

Unlike many jurisdictions, Arlington seldom has any problem recruiting election officers. Even in the depths of COVID, there were more people offering to serve than were needed. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
