Arlington County government 55+ programs are held indoors at 55+ Centers unless otherwise noted. A membership (starting at $20 annually) is required to participate.

• An introduction to ukulele will be offered on Tuesday, May 7 at 4 p.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center [Registration #913304-05] followed by an intermediate class at 4:30 p.m. [Registration #913304-11]. A limited number of loaner ukuleles will be available.

• A dance party to celebrate Older Americans Month, featuring music from different eras, will be offered on Wednesday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. Individuals can dress up in an outfit from their favorite decade, and can e-mail song suggestions in advance to cconley1@arlingtonva.us. [Registration #913899-02]

• A Mother’s Day Music and Tea event, featuring the stylings pf pianist Valerie Welsh, will be presented on Wednesday, May 8 at 1 p.m. at Aurora Hills 55+ Center. Attendees can bring photos of mothers, wives or children to share. [Registration #913890-03]

• An online history-roundtable group will look at the impact of mandatory primary education during a program on Wednesday, May 8 at 11:15 a.m. [Registration #913402-06]

• Volunteer Steve Shapiro will lead a program on the study of words and history of the English language on Wednesday, May 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Lubber Run 55+ Center. [Registration #913402-21 for in-person participation, #913402-22 for online]

• A new program – “Community Connections at Arlington Mill 55+ Center” – will look at the work of Aspire Aftershool Learning on Wednesday, May 8 at 5 p.m. at the center. [Registration #913400-05]
